Considering a new english horn?
I am thinking about purchasing a used Cabart English Horn. I don't know much about the brand but my oboe teacher got a stock of them in and he said it was in good condition and had no cracks. I play in an orchestra and they have been asking if I could rent buy an english horn for it. The english horn is selling for 1,400 dollars. Any advice?? Is it a good purchase?
Oboe or english horn serial number question?
I purchased this instrument without knowing much about it, but its serial is B42789. It looks ALOT like Selmer oboes. It is missing the bell and reed so I would like to find those parts as well. Can anyone tell me from the SN what I have? It looks to be in great condition. I want to restore it for my children to learn.

English Horn Recommendations?
I have been playing oboe for about three years now and lately, in my band music, there has been solos that call for an English Horn. Without it, I or whoever gets the solo would have to play a fifth lower than the written English Horn part, and that's pretty low on these parts. So, I was thinking that in the future near or far , buying an English Horn is on my list.I am also trying out for a youth wind ensemble and symphony orchestra soon, and I don't know if I'd be more likely to get in if I had an english horn.I have also played english horn at band camp, so I know what it feels like the reed and finger space .I play on a Fox 330 with low b flat vent key that I own. I was wondering for future reference , since Fox oboes are doing good for me, would a Fox english horn be okay too?What are some other brands that you would recommend. And do NOT say Selmer, because I have played on a Selmer oboe and it was terrible.Thanks
English horn and Oboe d'amore parts?
I play the oboe in a band and symphony orchestra, and I was thinking about switching to the english horn or oboe d'amore. Some of the songs we play don't have english horn or oboe d'amore parts, so do I just play the regular oboe parts or even the bassoon parts? Should I just be transposing the notes, or what should I do? Also, are english horns and oboe d'amores really worth it?
