Is Forsythian Spring by Christopher Norton a good marimba piece for college auditions?
And do you know where a video or recording of it being played may be found? Also, what other pieces do you recommend for college conservatory auditions? Thanks
What are some great quality *SOFT* marimba mallets, that can double up as suspended cymbal mallets?
At my high school, we have a very limited choice when it comes to mallets. I just was wondering if there are any soft or very soft marimba mallets that can also be used as suspended cymbal mallets. I'd like to purchase my own, and maybe suggest them to my band director.
I'm looking for a marimba practice pad , i saw one at a BOA marching band comp a few years ago?
it doesn't make sound or anything it jus a large pad you put on a table with the shape and size of a marimba
Can anyone recomend hip hop/ dubstep with marimbas in it?
Are piano notes the same as marimba notes?
Im trying to learn F r Elise on the piano casio keyboard but I play the marimba at school. All I have for note references is my marimba book and I don't know if the notes are the same. I can't read notes very well. At the very least can someone send a link to a piano note guide? Thanks
Has anyone else played Malaguena on the marimba or a related instrument?
I'm really struggling with how exactly it should sound. If you've ever played it or know where I can see a video of someone playing it on marimba, it would be awesome if you could show me some videos or give me some pointers.
When playing an arrangement on marimba...?
Say that I play Bach's Sonata for Violin BWV 1001 Should I try to imitate the interpretation and sound of a violin, or does that go against the point? If it does, please explain why.
Cute nicknames for a percussionist/marimba player?
weird question but i can't think of anything
When playing a marimba, what is the difference in sound between straight and curvy grain on the wood?
I'm looking at a " practice" rosewood marimba that apparently has wavy grain on some of the bars. I'm not sure why " straight grain" is preferred. Is there a tonal difference or is it something else? Is there even THAT much of a difference?
Low prices for marimbas?
I really want to own a marimba but everywhere i look they are thousands of dollars. Is there any store website that sells 3 or 4 octive marimbas in the 1 200 $ range?? it doesnt have to be new. i saw this one on ebay for one that was in the 1 200 range but it was small and handmade, so if u saw that one please dont suggest it. I want one i can hit with yarn mallets for that echoey sound, not one that i hit with hard rubber mallets for that shrill sound.
Is there a decent Marimba, Clarinet duet?
My friend and I are doing a duet for clarinet and marimba We're about levels 2.5 3.5 It has to be a " Professional" piece that you can buy in music stores, and we don't want it to sound happy and cheerful, we want it a bit darker and more mysterious and random. Please help me find decent music, Marimba and Clarinet sound great together but most people do not do duets with these two instruments, so there is not very much music for it.
Building Marimba Mallets?
I really want to make my own marimba mallets, but I can't seem to find anything to use as a core. I know it's a rubber ball, but you can't just find one on the internet unless it's a bouncy toy. Other than that, I can get all the materials so all I need to do is get some help finding a core.
Is it possible to play Beethoven's Sonata 17 "The Tempest" (3rd movement) on Marimba?
This is the song for anyone who is unfamiliar with it on some apple program that shows which keys are being hit when youtube.com watch?v 7g78z1jiR1w I understand it would be difficult.. but I think it would be fun. If necessary I could learn how to play with six mallets though holding 3 in each hand decreases flexibility and control and whatnot To the first answerer I've emailed my marimba teacher asking if i could edit only slightly to maintain the integrity of the piece. I think, besides any chords that are more than 4 notes and i don't really see any it maayyy be manageable without any changes at all although it will take a LOT of practice... . The only part that really irks me is the part with the quickly oscillating octave C's, E's and G's i think? , though stuff like that is often easier than it appears. Also another thing to consider which I just realized while learning the very first part is that, since I have the advantage of a much larger range with mallets than one would have with fingers, I don't have to play all of the right notes with the right hand or all of the left notes with the left. I appreciate your ideas
