Oboe made out of Ebony powder and Bakelite?
I'm 17 years old and I have been playing oboe for 7 years. I need to start preparing for music scholarships for college and I need an oboe because all of the school oboes are broken beyond repair. I'm looking for a cheap intermediate professional oboe and I came across a professional one but its made out of ebony powder and bakelite... What is that exactly? Plastic? I understand that wood oboes produce a richer sound but would this oboe still produce a decent sound? Should I get it?
Tips for beginner oboe player?
im just starting the oboe. besides lots of practice and dedication, what are some other helpful tips that can help me become a much better oboes player? im really interested in the oboe and would love for some advice Thanks. oh and PS. any suggestions on cheap rentals and good uncostly reeds for beginners???
Is w Schreiber a good brand of oboe?
I have been playing on a used plastic yamaha oboe so, yes, it's isn't the best. It doesn't have a full conservatory system, so my teacher suggested I upgrade to a nicer oboe. We went to a local music store to ask if they had any oboes, and they had one a w Schreiber oboe 7060 that was wooden and had a modified conservatory system. The oboe had only been used for a few months, and it had been used by an oboe player in an orchestra, so at least the previous owner knew what they were doing with it. The guy at the store said that they could also get Fox oboes, Yamaha oboe, etc. So, all I am wondering, is what do you think I should do? What is your advice?Thought I would add this the guy at the music store said that W Schreiber was the same company that makes Buffet Clarinets. They just wanted to have a new branch for their oboes. I don't know if this matters, just thought I would add it.
