I'm learning to play sousaphone this summer and I'm playing it in my high school marching band. The thing is, I've played clarinet since sixth grade and I have no knowledge of brass instruments. I've brought the mouthpiece and the pipe thing that goes on that home to practice buzzing. But the problem is... It smells... interesting and it's dingy on the inside of the mouthpiece.. How do I clean it?

I'm switching from clarinet to sousaphone in the marching band and i know i'm going to need a lot more air. My lung capacity isn't that great but i do intend to march sousaphone no matter what. What is it like switching from sousaphone/tuba to a contrabass bugle?
I'm gaining interest in joining a drum corps and was wondering is there a difference between fingerings on the tuba or sousaphone and the contra. If so, would anyone mind posting a link for the notes or even just the fingerings for the b flat scale? Also, are all the embouchure shaped the same way?By the way, I played tuba and sousaphone in high school so I have some knowledge on how to play the instruments.

If you guys know the song Brooklyn by the Youngblood Brass Band which is a great song, my friends and I are planning to perform the song for the fall concert at my high school. D the bass in that song is played by a sousaphone player. But our school only has four decent tubas. And that is all I can practice with right now. I'll be able to get a sousaphone from another school but for now, the tuba is all I have. Friend who plays trumpet tells me tuba and sousaphone is the same as in by keys and stuff. Is it true? I hope it is. By the way. I just started tuba like a week ago so I dont really know. Switched from a clarinet. haha thanks

How to get used to wearing a sousaphone?
Hey everyone. Going to be playing the tuba next year and have been playing around with it a bit. Tried one on here today and realized that it's going to be quitteee painful Any tips to help me through my next marching season or any tips in playing it in general? FYI I am switching from playing baritone euphonium so the weight and musical difference won't be overly huge.
My sousaphone is hurting my neck!?
i play the sousaphone in band. if you dont know what it is, its like a wrap around tuba thing that they use in marching. i say that i play a satellite dish. lol.but anyway, as many know, the entire instrument's weight is rested on the left shoulder neck. and i'm tiny compared to this thing i'm 5'4" and thin so naturally my neck is KILLING me.any tips or tricks to use when playing and or marching?anything is appreciated

i would like to learn the bassoon and the state is stupid and buys us cheap sousaphones that are always flat so the band has to tune down so they arent the only ones that are flat. and ...omg i just saw the 50cent vitamin water commercial with the orchestra, that was funny. that'd be awsome for him to conduct us...except most people there like rock...anyway... band funding sux. the chorus gets these nice chairs but they stand for concerts, we get crap, and our stands are falling apart...Is there a site that has money for bands etc.?
