Should I learn trumpet for Jazz Band? (I usually play tuba for concert)?
I attend a very small high school with next to no money so as you can tell most money goes to athletics and sports. We have the chance to get a Jazz Band going at our school for the first time in years at this school. We currently have 5 trombones including me and 3 trumpets signed up for next year. Usually Jazz ensembles have four tromb. four trumpets so I fell like it would be best for the band for myself to learn trumpet so that we could actually have the zero class next year. I understand that I won't be able to learn the new instrument over night but I have till next school year in September and it is currently March. I also know how to play tuba, trombone, and euphonium and I am more than reluctant to take the challenge. The thing that's sad though is that the board is gonna ask my director as to whether or not she wants a Jazz Band or a 6th grade beginning band because they are cheap. If the class doesnt' pass I'm prepared to go to a meeting and complain along with all people that signed up to show our willingness to commit to the class. The board only gives the band program around $100 a year but if we could get this class passed it would be AMAZING for myself and everyone that signed up. We currently have enough peopl to have a traditional band. We have two altos, a tenor, a barri, 3 trumpets, a piano, guitar, a bass clarinet who will most likely play the string bass part , like two to three percussionists, one of which is AMAZING on a drumset, and a clarinet which we will fit into our Jazz band for our own purposes.

Playing Both the Tuba and Trombone?
Currently I play the tuba, and am doing quite well and have a very nice full tone. Sadly, I can't play beyond a High High F, and was told playing the trombone would allow me to be able to play the lines above the staff on the tuba. I'm wondering if this is true, and if playing the trombone as well as the tuba would have any negative effects on my tuba playing. Thanks
