One day I was randomly think about how cool it would be to have a colored viola, so I looked it up and google and found a very good price. They're pretty hard to come by. I'm not really ready for the Hoffmeister and such, but is there anything else? I'm also not the biggest fan of the Baroque and Classical periods... or anything related to Stamitz. Anything romantic or contemporary?

I have played viola for 5 years now and I really think that the cello sounds better to me. I switched to cello once before but then i switched back because i missed viola. I already have the background for viola. However I enjoy the sound of a cello more and I honestly am not sure which one to choose. Please tell me which one you like better and why. I'm looking for advanced, unaccompanied pieces. I'm not going to Solo & Ensemble, I'm auditioning for a university, so please do not suggest something childish you found in a Suzuki book. I have been looking through an endless list and searching for recordings. This process has been slow with few promising results. A good lead to help narrow my search would be appreciated. I'm open to any era of music, but the piece needs to provide a healthy challenge without being over the top.If you mention Bach's Cello Suite, you get a thumbs down. If I could give you a thousand thumbs down, I would.
What are some dramatic, minor, and advanced pieces for violas?
What are some dramatic, minor, and advanced pieces for viola? When I say minor, I mean flats in the key signature. Not like a minor or e minor, but like g minor and b flat minor. I want the piece to be very dramatic, and very very advanced. Thank you.

Easy, but nice sounding viola pieces for my Manhattan School of Music Precollege audition?
The audition in on May 19th in 3 weeks I am current a freshman in high school. I took viola lessons from 2008 2011, but afterwards I took a 1 year break. I currently have no teacher and am intending to learn the audition repertoire by myself. I will be playing viola as my secondary instrument.The audition calls for 2 contrasting pieces.I am thinking about the Prelude from Bach's Suite No. 1 is that too easy? Or I can play the first movement from the JC Bach C minor Concerto that will take a lot of practicing But I am not sure what would be a contrasting piece for that. I considered the Schubert Arpeggione Sonata at first, but it seems a little out of my reach. I want an easy piece, but difficult enough that it will take some effort to learn and will sound like a genuine viola piece. Any suggestions?Also, I need 2 Major, and 2 minor scales arpeggios? Which ones have the easiest fingering?I am open to any suggestions, thanks
Should I learn viola or no?
Im a violinist. I think Im pretty good. Ive been playing for almost seven years and I rank high in orchestra. I have LONG arms and HUGE hands fingers. I tried playing my friends 16.5" viola and it was an absolute perfect fitting. Also since Im known as a pretty strong aggressive player Ive been told I should try the viola to bring out their part. I mean I understand why but the problem is that I cant sightread alto clef, if I try my mind and fingers automatically switch to treble. Should I go for the change or no? Id like to stay playing the violin but I also like trying something new. Another thing keeping me back is the violin viola rivalry. If anything Id learn string bass but it would be a totally different concept. Violins and violas have the same fingering and way to play but one different string and though bass and violin have same strings in reverse order bass has a completely different fingering and way to play it. So should I try the viola?
Advice for me for playing Viola next year?
Soo, I started playing Viola in school I'm in 7th grade in August 2011 I'm pretty good my friend that plays violin that's way more advanced in orchestra than I am says I'm really good too. Anyways I'm renting my viola and the lady at the shop said after about 6 mnths I could change mine in for a better quality one to rent that was in August but I'm not sure if I should or not for nxt year. And also there are 4 levels at school 1 beginning which is what I'm in 2 Philharmonic. Which I think would be easy and boring for me 3 Symphony I want to get in here next year and the most advanced 4 Chamber my friend that plays bass that started in August is going for this one. My friends say I should go to Chamber. So I have 2 questions..1 should I rent a better quality Viola mines machine made ?2 should I try out for Symphony or Chamber for next year?
